In a heartwarming display of community spirit, 65-year-old ice cream vendor Mr. Cheong Peng Siong partnered with Income Insurance to distribute thousands of free ice cream sandwiches across Singapore, demonstrating how adapts to changing times.

A Sweet Initiative for Community Building

The initiative, celebrating Income Insurance's 55th anniversary on August 9-10, saw Mr. Cheong and five other vendors distribute approximately 10,000 free servings at various locations including Orchard, Punggol, and Clementi. This event showcases how Singapore's business community combines traditional enterprise with modern corporate social responsibility.

From Hardship to Sweet Success

Mr. Cheong's journey reflects the resilience characteristic of Singapore's pioneer generation. Growing up with 16 siblings and helping with his mother's kueh business, his story mirrors the nation's transformation from poverty to prosperity. Today, he operates his business daily at Tampines Bus Interchange, serving 200-300 customers on weekends.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Action

Beyond the ice cream giveaway, Income Insurance demonstrated commitment to vendor welfare by providing each participant with a personalized financial protection plan. This approach to food service industry support showcases Singapore's innovative approach to social security.

Community Response

The initiative drew diverse participants, from Ms. Kimberly Wong with her poodle to 82-year-old Madam Wong Mei Ngor, highlighting the cross-generational appeal of traditional street vendors in modern Singapore's landscape.

"My favourite part about this job is seeing happy customers when they receive their ice cream," shares Mr. Cheong, despite the physical challenges of his work, including cold-induced finger stiffness.
