New bus services will enhance connectivity in Singapore's northeast region and Tengah development

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced a major expansion of public transportation services, with 11 new bus routes and two route extensions to be implemented by end-2025, focusing on northeast Singapore and the developing Tengah region.

Enhanced Connectivity for Northeast and Tengah Regions

The expansion, part of Singapore's ongoing efforts to strengthen its community infrastructure development, will significantly improve accessibility for residents in these growing areas.

Northeast Region Developments

  • Two new regular services
  • Two route extensions
  • Five new city direct services connecting to the central business district

This enhancement of public transport infrastructure aligns with Singapore's commitment to improving community services and accessibility for residents.

Tengah and Brickland Services

The new development areas will receive four dedicated services (451, 452, 453, and a regular service), designed to provide direct connections to MRT stations. Additionally, existing services 298X, 979X, and 21X will be renumbered as 454, 455, and 456 respectively.

"This is specific to HDB residents who stay farther away from the city. Because when you take the train, actually the journey is quite fast. But if you have to take a feeder bus, it can take a bit of time," stated Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow.

Investment in Public Transport Infrastructure

The Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme, launched in July 2024, demonstrates Singapore's continued focus on infrastructure excellence and efficient urban planning. The S$900 million (US$694 million) investment over eight years has already benefited nearly 200,000 commuters.

Program Achievements

  • 14 new services implemented
  • 52 existing services enhanced
  • Additional bus lanes planned for smoother journeys

The expansion particularly addresses the needs of North East Line users, one of Singapore's busiest MRT lines, providing alternative transport options while maintaining the city-state's reputation for world-class public transportation.
