Community Development Council representatives announcing new initiatives for job support and community building in Singapore

Singapore's Community Development Councils (CDCs) are set to expand their roles in employment assistance and community building, marking a significant evolution in local social support infrastructure. The announcement came from People's Association (PA) Deputy Chairman Edwin Tong during the PA Community Seminar on October 11.

Enhanced Job Support Initiative

The Jobs Nearby @ CDC programme, unveiled by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the National Day Rally 2025, aims to bridge the gap between job seekers and heartland enterprises. This initiative builds upon Singapore's growing focus on community-based support systems, with all five CDCs scheduled to implement the enhanced job assistance programme by October 2025.

Strengthening Community Bonds

In a move that reflects Singapore's commitment to social cohesion, CDCs will intensify their efforts to promote volunteerism and community engagement. The initiative aims to:

  • Aggregate volunteer opportunities within districts
  • Mobilize individuals and organizations for community service
  • Enhance volunteer management capabilities
  • Develop microcommunities of mutual support

Strategic Boundary Adjustments

To optimize service delivery, the PA has announced geographical boundary adjustments that will create better population balance among CDCs. This restructuring, which demonstrates Singapore's systematic approach to governance and community management, includes:

  • Transfer of Aljunied GRC and Hougang SMC to South East CDC
  • Rebalancing of population distribution between districts
  • Seamless transition of existing support programs
"My team and I are committed to building on the good work done and look forward to hearing your needs and aspirations for the district," said South East District mayor Dinesh Vasu Dash.

The boundary changes will be officially gazetted on October 13, with both South East and North East CDCs working collaboratively to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to affected residents.
